With the SANS 204 Thermal bylaw and new SANS 10400 XA Building regulations architects, developers and engineers have shown a lot of interest in our films.
As a LLumar® Accredited Architectural Installer (AAI), Lunar Products only installs new generation, LLumar® films, which reduce heat-gain and glare much more effectively, by reflection and filtering - as much as 84% (tinted), or 56% (clear) without spoiling the view while also blocking more than 99% of UV rays thereby protecting furniture, floors, curtains and carpets. LLumar® films have a warranty ranging between 7 - 10 years against fading, peeling and bubbling and will last twice the warranty period.
Over the past 13 years we have been working closely with many Architects, Engineers and Property Developers on numerous "Green" or energy saving, building projects and retrofitting projects. We have also worked closely with Property Management Companies and Interior Designers on their existing buildings and new projects, to reduce heat gains and cooling loads to ultimately improve occupant comfort.
LLumar® films are the world leaders in major projects involving Solar Control film, manufacturing unique Spectrally Selective films that attribute to high energy savings in specific ways producing a very light, almost clear film. Steady improvements by LLumar® in deposition technology, adhesive films, and scratch resistant surface coatings have resulted in truly viable products of impressive performance and longevity. Optically clear polyester films, that are UV stabilized, hard coated and encapsulate sputter or vapor depositions of any number of metals and oxides or IR blocking nano particle dispersions are making it easier to upgrade the solar performance of standard glazing systems. These performance films offer overall energy and electrical bill savings of up to 15%.
Investments in energy efficiency, without fail, always have a positive impact on profits and earnings. In these times of explosive world development and ever-increasing energy shortages, contractors, architects and building managers alike, have a duty (both to their own bottom line and sustainability in general) to strive for maximum energy efficiency in both building design, construction and management
Buildings with fenestration area per story exceeding 15% shall comply with the requirements for fenestration in SANS 204. Buildings with artificial air-conditioning in each climatic zone have different sets of constants/calculations that need to be done (the constants are provided in the SANS 204 bylaw document) - energy constants and shading multipliers need to be included in the calculations.
The LLumar® products that we use are foremost in the solar window film industry. However, their "Enerlogic" and "Low-e" series which have up until now been the global leaders in films that insulate the indoor temperature of a room, are no longer available (last quarter of 2017) due to some failures along coastal areas. LLumar® has taken a commercial decision based on the high manufacturing costs linked with the relatively low global demand of these films and have withdrawn them from the market to secure and maintain their global reputation. This problem is not exclusive to LLumar® as we have discovered that all global manufacturers have experienced the same failures and consequently have withdrawn their film from the market. We are however, confident that LLumar® and other world leaders will be developing new and better products in the future and we will be looking forward to this development with anticipation.
The LLumar® VS60 Spectrally Selective film is still available. This film is very light and has a Solar Heat Rejection of 58%, Glare Reduction of 30% with a U-value of 4.8 w/m²K (increases insulation by 25%)
